The campaign
The 11th edition of the free photography contest organized by Fondazione con il Sud aims to promote a collective visual narrative of Southern Italy, particularly through snapshots of change: past, ongoing, or hoped for.
The ‘before and after’ we want to capture refers not only to the physical transformation of places and people, but also to a symbolic dimension. ‘Before’ is the past set against the present, but it is, at the same time, the present being challenged by the future we imagine. Photographs can tell the story of changes that unfold over time, whether brought about by human actions or occurring naturally.
THE INITIATIVE IS FREE AND OPEN TO EVERYONE.
Participants can enter the contest by sending digital photos by 16 NOVEMBER 2018 to the email address contestconilsud@gmail.com in JPG format (without watermarks such as logos, credits, or other overlays) in high resolution (300 dpi). If your email attachments exceed 5 MB, we recommend using one of the many free online file-transfer services available for sending large files.
There are no restrictions on the number of images submitted or on photographic composition. Pairing two or more shots together is not required; the shift from ‘before’ to ‘after’ should be conveyed through the photograph itself and can be further clarified with a title or a brief caption.
Submissions must include the author’s full name, the location where the photo was taken, an optional caption, a signed release form consenting to the use of the images, and confirmation of compliance with copyright and privacy regulations. The release form can be downloaded from www.fondazioneconilsud.it and www.conilsud.it. We also recommend including your social media handles so you can be tagged on the Foundation’s channels if your images are shared.
A selection of photographs will be published on the Foundation’s website and promoted on social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram. Select images will also be featured as a POSTER (60 x 75 cm) in ‘Esperienze con il Sud’, the Foundation’s print newsletter, distributed free of charge to thousands of recipients (institutions, foundations, associations, media outlets, and members of the public) and available on request through the Foundation’s website.
