“The Audiovisual Napoli Hub” Launch

8 April 2024

“The Audiovisual Napoli Hub,” a fully-funded vocational training program specializing in audiovisual and film production designed for youths at risk of social, cultural, and economic marginalization, is now underway.

A project aimed at 80 NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) individuals, aged between 18 and 29, living within the municipalities of the Metropolitan City of Naples.

The initiative is led by Altra Napoli EF, an association with a 15-year track record of promoting urban, artistic, and social redevelopment projects in neighbourhoods like Rione Sanità and Forcella and providing young people with cultural and social growth opportunities. It is also led by Apogeo ETS, an established association that emerged from Altra Napoli EF’s project in the heart of the Sanità neighbourhood. Apogeo ETS operates in the audiovisual production sector under the brand Upside Production. In collaboration with them are the following associations: Amici di Peter Pan, Il Grillo Parlante Onlus, IPE, and Sanitansamble EF. Moreover, the project partnered with the University of Naples Federico II and led to the renovation of over 200 square meters of space generously provided by the Department of Social Sciences. The space is located within the historic center of Naples, in Vico Monte della Pietà, and serves as the project’s headquarters.

In addition, subject to a selection process, 20 students from the Department of Social Sciences at Federico II University will join the 80 NEETs and contribute to cultivating an environment of cross-disciplinary exchange within a stimulating context.

The program will provide experienced faculty members and industry experts who will introduce the participants to the job market as camera operators, video editors, video makers, live sound engineers, and sound designers.

“The Audiovisual Naples Hub” is not only driven by its social value but also by the remarkable growth in the audiovisual production market in Campania. The surge in demand for professionals in this sector creates a real opportunity for participants in the training program to enter the workforce.

The project will be realized through the support of the CON IL SUD Foundation, which has doubled the raised funds, along with the CDP Foundation, the Bracco Foundation, Reale Foundation, Haiku Lugano Foundation, UniCredit, Entain Foundation, and Cesare Attolini.

Among the most concrete benefits of the program are the professional experiences offered to participants at national and international institutions in the cultural, artistic, and audiovisual sectors. For instance, Prime Video will provide six internship opportunities on the sets of upcoming local Amazon Original productions. Prime Video, in collaboration with Sky, Netflix, and Cinecittà, will also contribute to the educational component by involving executives in a series of high-value masterclasses, also opened to university students.

The project, under the patronage of Rai and the City of Naples, will be enriched by the support of the Film Commission Regione Campania, the Cohousing Cinema Napoli and various other institutions and companies operating within the culture, cinema, and audiovisual sectors including the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli (Naples Academy of Fine Arts), Accademia Teatro alla Scala (La Scala Academy), Confindustria Radio Televisioni (CRTV), Teatro di San Carlo (San Carlo Theatre), Teatro Bellini (Bellini Theatre), and Upside Production.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be awarded the Open Badge Audiovisual Naples Hub issued by the University of Naples Federico II and recognized internationally.
